Southeast Michigan Bluegrass Music Association Announces 2021 Scholarships for Youth

The mission for the Southeast Michigan Bluegrass Music Association is to work together to preserve and promote bluegrass in Southeast Michigan. As a part of that endeavor, the Association has established a fund to grant scholarship assistance to qualified youth in the area to further their abilities as they learn to play bluegrass music. Awards must be used by the recipient toward payment for music instruction, either in person or online/video instruction. Payment will be made to the provider. Other efforts to assist young musicians will be announced in 2021.

10th Anniversary Blissfield Bluegrass on the River Postponed

The Southeast Michigan Bluegrass Music Association has announced that the 10th anniversary of Blissfield Bluegrass on the River has been postponed and rescheduled for August 14, 2021.

The high risk of the worldwide pandemic of COVID-19 virus raised concern regarding the safety of the Blissfield community, the musicians, volunteers, and fans. We feel that the safety and health of participants is paramount.

We appreciate the support the community, sponsors, musicians, and fans have given the Festival since SMBMA took over the management. We will need that support again in 2021 and look forward to seeing everyone then.

SMBMA Meeting on June 20

We are navigating difficult times, and we know that each of our members have concerns during the pandemic.

With this in mind, we have decided to go ahead with a meeting on June 20, 1 p.m. at KC Campgrounds, 14048 Sherman Road, Milan, MI 48160. We will meet outdoors under the pavilion to allow for distancing. Bring your own chair, wear a mask if you wish. Please bring your own beverages and snacks; with sanitation and distancing being a concern we feel that is our best option.

Listen to the meeting live on our Facebook page if you can’t attend:

Those who feel comfortable jamming should bring instruments for a jam following the meeting.
