Uphill River brings together musicians from across Michigan with a shared love for bluegrass that honors tradition while pushing forward. Blending traditional bluegrass and old-time roots with progressive influences, the band creates a sound that’s both familiar and fresh, anchored in tight harmonies and dynamic instrumentation. Uphill River features Ian Tronsen (banjo, guitar, vocals), Nancy Steinberger (fiddle, vocals), Chris Jarrell (guitar, mandolin, vocals), and Robin Abbott (bass, vocals), each drawing from a wide range of influences spanning traditional bluegrass to modern acoustic music.
