Please Welcome the Uphill River Band!

We  are pleased to welcome the Uphill River Band, a new band member of the Association.

Uphill River brings together musicians from across Michigan with a shared love for bluegrass that honors tradition while pushing forward. Blending traditional bluegrass and old-time roots with progressive influences, the band creates a sound that’s both familiar and fresh, anchored in tight harmonies and dynamic instrumentation. Uphill River features Ian Tronsen (banjo, guitar, vocals), Nancy Steinberger (fiddle, vocals), Chris Jarrell (guitar, mandolin, vocals), and Robin Abbott (bass, vocals), each drawing from a wide range of influences spanning traditional bluegrass to modern acoustic music. Whether driving hard or leaning into subtle moments, Uphill River’s music reflects a deep respect for where bluegrass comes from and a clear excitement for where it can go.

Uphill River will be performing at Woldumar on March 15. Please head out and support that event and welcome the band!
